My approach

My practice

Schema therapy

Schema therapy explores long-standing patterns that still shape emotions, behaviour and relationships. Understanding their origins and present impact helps outdated responses evolve and new ways of responding take shape.

A visual guide

When the past echoes in the present

An old schema can shape how we read a current situation and keep a pattern going.

My needs

Recognising and responding to them

  1. A current situation

An event touches a sensitive point.

  2. A schema is activated

An old belief about myself or others returns.

  3. Emotions intensify

Fear, shame, sadness or anger may emerge.

  4. I protect myself

I give in, avoid or try to control everything.

  5. The difficulty repeats

My response can leave my needs unmet.

  6. The schema grows stronger

The experience seems to confirm the original belief.

This cycle illustrates one possible way a schema is maintained. Therapy aims to recognise it and build responses better suited to current needs.

An everyday example

Fearing abandonment when someone is distant

Someone close is less available. An abandonment schema may be activated: “People always leave me.” Fear may lead to repeated reassurance-seeking or withdrawing before being hurt.

Separating past experience from the present

We explore the schema, the situations that activate it and the needs it reveals. This helps develop responses that take account of the actual situation, rather than only an old fear.

Schema therapy

Understanding the approach

Schema therapy explores the patterns that form over the course of a life, particularly in childhood, and that continue to influence emotions, behaviours or relationships. By identifying their origin and their impact in the present, it allows outdated patterns to evolve and new, more adapted bearings to gradually take hold.

First step

A first conversation, with no commitment

The first session is a meeting: understanding what brings you here, answering your questions and deciding together whether this is the right fit.
